The product name literally translates as "Okinawan brown sugar". It comes from the fact that the Spanish and Portuguese who arrived in the Age of Discovery called Okinawa (also known to the locals as Ryuku) "Lequio". Also, Kokuto is often translated as Brown Sugar, but Okinawan Kokuto is different from that. In the absence of a formal English translation and little penetration abroad, it was named Kokuto. The product name contains the mission of conveying the charm of Awamori, Kokuto, and Okinawa itself.

Based on the full-tea Awamori made with yeast collected from cherry blossoms in Okinawa, kokuto from Iriomote Island and Yonaguni Island, which have different characters, was carefully melted. In addition, a small amount of rum made from kokuto is blended to bring out the flavor of the kokuto. The rich and creamy taste of kokuto from Iriomote Island and the bitter aftertaste derived from kokuto from Yonaguni Island are added to the base spirits with a body called Awamori and rum, and a liqueur like never before has been completed.

It is characterized by a sweet and fragrant flavor and a creamy aftertaste, a full aroma reminiscent of sugar cane juice and green apples, and a solid body.
