CWC partner Lee Campbell has always been a lover of the traditional Italian sparkling red wines known as Lambrusco, having discovered them as a young sommelier, and also having whiled away many afternoons sipping on them while nibbling antipasti on New York City’s Lower East Side. Libertango is an homage to these food-friendly wines, and is also a celebration of the incomparable Grace Jones, the cuvée being named after one of her most memorable songs, and the label featuring her bad-ass self. In the place of the grippy Lambrusco grapes of Emilia-Romagna in Northern Italy, we are using saperavi, blaufränkisch, and tannat, which certainly pack a punch! 16 days on the skins. 100% co-fermented. 6 months on lees. VEGAN.
Common Wealth Crush Co is the first winery of its kind in the Shenandoah Valley. Founded by Ben Jordan of Lightwell Survey, his brother Tim, and celebrated sommelier Lee Campbell (of Borgo in NYC), Common Wealth is an incubator, custom crush, and think tank cooperative. They’ve created a space for the next generation of Virginia winemakers and to provide a home for collaboration and creativity in the community. Similar to Lightwell Survey, their own line of wines focuses on local hybrid grapes and produces wine with minimal to no additions.
