100% Manseng Noir

Rivera, Uruguay

Continental climate with a large temperature range. Plants imported from France and planted in 2019 as part of the ANII research project. This was the first planting of this grape variety outside of France. Soils of alluvial origin from volcanic materials washed over millions of years that formed very deep reddish sediments rich in iron, with great depth and good drainage, 250 meters above sea level.

The Manseng Noir grapes are destemmed in open tanks. Fermented with selected indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks with two pump-overs per day for three days. The wine is then pressed together and aged in second-use barrels where fermentation and malolactic fermentation are completed. It is aged in barrels for only two months for natural clarification. Bottled with minimal SO2. VEGAN.

Originally from Spain, the Carrau family has been making wine for 10 generations and moved to Uruguay in 1930. Scientists, nature lovers, and pioneers; they saw winemaking promise in the unique soils and microclimate in Rivera, Uruguay, and established one of the only wineries in this very remote region. The ‘Folklore’ line is the vision of 10th generation daughter Pia Carrau, who is bringing minimal intervention practices to their sustainable, low-energy, gravity flow winery.
