Gober & Freinbichler + Franz Weninger, Chill! 2025

Regular price $25.00 Sale

40% Zweigelt, 40% Merlot, 20% Blaufrankisch

Burgenland, Austria

Certified Organic and Biodynamic. Spontaneous fermentation, matured in stainless steel. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, with minimal added sulfur. VEGAN.

Vivid ruby in the glass, this natural red opens with bright aromas of red currant, sour cherry, and crushed raspberries. On the palate, it’s fruit-driven and ultra-light, with no discernible tannins and a silky, refreshing texture. Zesty acidity and delicate herbal nuances add lift and energy, making it perfect for easy sipping. Dry, clean, and playful, this wine “floats” across the tongue with a gentle grip and a cooling mineral edge on the finish.

Gober & Freinbichler is the collaborative project of friends Dominik Gober and Gerald Freinbichler, who met while working under the legendary Franz Weninger. After founding their winery in 2016 in Neckenmarkt, Central Burgenland, the duo began cultivating overlooked vineyard parcels with an eye toward elegance, purity, and low-intervention winemaking. Their estate has been certified organic since 2018, and their minimalist cellar practices focus on natural fermentations and site transparency. Their wines—especially Blaufränkisch—have drawn attention for their restrained, classical style and unbeatable value. Ideal with picnic fare, grilled vegetables, roast chicken, charcuterie, or Mediterranean mezze. A versatile choice for daytime sipping, rooftop dinners, or spontaneous gatherings with friends.

This is an estate we met through Franz Weninger and that we’ve supported through our “Vineyard Project” label. These two guys are young and just present a side of Burgenland we don’t see too much: classical and restrained and fairly priced. That’s what we fell in love with here. Dominic Gober and Gerald Freinbicher (Gober & Freinbichler) hold *choice* parcels in Neckenmarkt, in southern Burgenland (near Moric), and produce what is, in our opinion, one of the most transparent and elegant Blaufrankisch for the money. An energetic red that almost floats across the palate at only 11.5% alcohol. The Zweigelt (the dominant grape) gives the wine force and dark fruit, the Merlot and Blaufrankisch, a bit of mid-palate weight and herbal complexity. But in the end, this is just a graceful, buoyant light red to chill with… also, should be served chilled.
