Judith Beck, Weissburgunder 2019
100% Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc)
From the importer-
Judith Beck’s Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) comes from 2 hectares of both organically and biodynamically farmed vines averaging 25 years of age. They are planted on gravel soils. Half are on the lower slopes near Lake Neusiedl, and the other half are above the town of Gols. Beck hand-picks the Weissburgunder mid-way through the harvest period, about the same time as the St. Laurent but before the Zweigelt. The grapes are pressed in whole bunches. The alcoholic and subsequent malolactic fermentations occur spontaneously with the native yeasts in 1000 liter acacia casks and some neutral barriques. The Weissburgunder is fermented fully dry, and without the addition of any SO2 during vinification. It develops for 6 months on its lees - to enhance freshness, the lees are not stirred - and it is assembled in tank after 6 months. The wine is not fined, but lightly filtered, with a minimal (20mg) addition of SO2 at bottling. 1300 cases produced.
The wine has a brilliant pale gold-yellow color with expressive aromas and flavors of white peaches and pears lifted by fresh, fruity acidity.
