Beginning his wine-making career at a very early age with educational stints in Burgundy, Alsace and Champagne, producer Lori Haon ventured off on his own in 2016 when he was just 23 years old to take over a plot of (what began as) 15 hectares in the small village of Valliguières in the department of Gard, bordering the Southern Rhône region. The expansive domaine—now 23 hectares—encompasses a large array of terroirs (limestone, sandstone, schist) as well as a minimum of thirteen red and white, appellation and non-appellation varieties at any given time. The vines are quality-over-quantity driven in terms of production, are worked very minimally, and are often treated with homemade recipes, including essential oils and herbal mixtures.
Produced by Lori Haon in the southern Rhone near Avignon using dry farming methods on certified organic parcels of sandstone, clay-limestone, schist and marl. Grapes are hand harvested and co-fermented for six weeks (combination of whole cluster fermentation and direct press, depending on the varieties) in concrete tanks. No fining, no filtration, no added sulfur.
Drinks like a bright cinsault with licorice vibes, perfect winter-spring glou-glou.
