Claude Quenard et Fils, La Gerbelle Sansoufrir Rouge NV
From the importer-
Domaine de la Gerbelle is the result of an old farm belonging to the Order of the Carthusian monks. When the Church and State separated in 1905, our great-grandfather, a farmer of them, bought the estate from the Chartreux Fathers at an auction in Chignin. He developed polyculture, breeding and planting a few vines. In the 1960s, the estate specialized in viticulture under the leadership of Claude Quenard. In the 2000s, André and Guy, Claude's sons, decided to convert the estate to organic farming. Today, the new generation is arriving at the estate and has already put its personal touch to it with the launch of a craft brewery activity, also in organic form. Recently, the wine tourism activity has been developing there with guest rooms and tables d'hôte in the former farm of the Chartreux.
The vines of the Estate are divided over two communities :
CHIGNIN for 85% of the surface area.
SAINT JEOIRE PRIEURE for the remaining 15%.
The Estate currently counts 17 hectares, worked by two the brothers André and Guy Quenard and two permanent employees.
In white you’ll find the principal Savoyard varieties, including Jacquère, Bergeron (Roussanne) and Chardonnay, and in red Mondeuse, Gamay and Pinot Noir. Recently we have replanted a very old Savoyard variety called Persan.
